I was looking for a better quality oil pastel than titi pastel and I found Mont Marte oil pastels. Love the buttery feeling and the blending with these pastels. I used blending stumps for the background gradients.
I also tried to proceed in a proper way. I attended two courses on oil and acrylic painting along with some youtube videos on soft and oil pastel painting.
So I approached with a sketchy under painting with the colors I have in my mind. And on top of that I applied more of the actual colors from my photo reference. I used handmade paper. This can hold 2-3 layers of oil pastels.
The most lovely part is when the paper is filled with oil pastel, the next layer gives a really nice oil painting look what seems like brush stroke. I could really relax myself and apply the colors I feel rather than copying the reference.
I used some clear acrylic gloss gel coat (my idea) and on top of that used a fixative spray.
First 3 individual pictures are after the fixative spray and the last 3 individual pictures are before the spray.
Feeling very happy with the experience and process.
